Project Description

The Bird of Two Colors

The action of The Bird of Two Colors (1951) takes place at the country of allegories. This chamber opera creted by Conrado del Campo (1878-1953) and Tomás Borrás (1891-1976) is a new production of the Juan March Foundation and the Teatro de la Zarzuela.

In an imaginary territory, a mix of a jungle, a circus and an American bar, three characters of marked symbolism meet: Mr. Tiger, a martial knight who pursues idealized love, tries to free the Bird. The Monkey, in his role as demiurge, resists by letting her escape and eventually transforms her into a modern and earthly woman. Despite all the impediments, love will end up triumphing in its own way.

After the success of his chamber opera Fantochines (1923), the writer Tomás Borrás and the composer Conrado del Campo collaborated again in this small format work that was unfinished and unreleased.

With this event, the format Teatro Musical de Cámara reaches the eleventh edition since 2014.
